Got an old laptop or desktop and want to upgrade the hard drive and memory without having to buy a new computer? or maybe you’re getting rid of an old machine and want to build you own dream machine? Either way, you’ll want to find compatible computer parts for the cheapest price.
There are lots of online retailers that sell computer and tech-related items, but there are a few that have consistently provided great deals on lots of computer hardware components. in this article, I’ll mention a couple of websites I use to find good deals on parts. If you have other sites or methods you use, please feel free to post them in the comments!
Newegg.com has always been a great choice for buying all kinds of computer parts ranging from web cams to hard drives to video cards to power supplies to fans, etc, etc. they just have a ton of stuff and geeks love to buy their gear from there. they also have a great return policy, so if anything is not working, you can always return it for free and get another one.
What I like about Newegg is that they have Shell Shocker deals, featured daily deals and eggextra! deals going on all the time. you can find some really cool stuff for cheap with some of these deals.
If you are looking for some hardware, it’s always a good idea to check on Newegg and TigerDirect and buy it from the retailer that is cheaper. they have a really good shipping policy and you can usually get free shipping on orders greater than $100. TigerDirect has been around since the 80′s and they really have some awesome deals.
Another way to find great deals is to sign up for their deal alerts at their retail stores. I happen to live in Dallas and TigerDirect has a local retail store, which means I find even better deals at the retail store sometimes than on the website. If you happen to live near a TigerDirect retail store, then sign up for those email alerts!
Crucial.com is one of my favorite sites because it really helps you if you are not a techie and need help in finding the right parts for your specific system. before they used to just give recommendations for memory, but now they also will help you find compatible internal hard drives and solid state hard drives. they are not really a hardware retailer, but since most consumers are really ever only upgrading their memory or buying a new hard drive, it’s perfect for finding the right hardware for your system.
I always use Crucial to find the right item and then search on Newegg and TigerDirect to see if I can find that part cheaper there.
If you have a Frys Electronics store near you, you can find some crazy deals on lots of computer parts. they have a huge array of items and they are always having big sales on small and big ticket items, especially in the store. you can check out their ads or follow some deal sites like TechBargains that have a Frys Deals section.
I was recently able to grab a new iPad 2 16GB Wifi for $300 and pick it up at the store when they had a two-day sale on iPads. That’s the cheapest price by far I was able to find!
Amazon.com and eBay
Last, but not least, you can find some good deals on Amazon and eBay if you really hunt for bargains. If you are an Amazon Prime member, you can get free shipping and get it faster than you might be able to get it on other hardware sites. If you don’t mind buying something used, you can always find great deals on eBay.

ScienceDaily (July 20, 2012) — for years researchers have been looking for ways to improve patient care by making better use of health information. So far, big Data and Web 3.0, techie terms for massive stores of patient data and a unified global system to analyze it — have not realized their full potential in medical research.
Meanwhile, you can cruise your favorite app store for hundreds of Web applications that analyze data, in many cases to create a smartphone game. No need to buy pricey hard drives or software packages. Ironically, the market asked Web browsers, the part of your computer that talks to the internet, to do so many things in recent years that this cheap, universal computing environment became an analytical powerhouse, especially when you network browsers together in "clouds."
Bioinformatics experts have looked on with envy, wishing they too had access to simple, powerful and free Web apps like those that drive angry Birds. now a team at the University of Alabama at Birmingham has made a start at delivering that.
As detailed in the July 20 edition of the Journal of Pathology Informatics, ImageJS is a free app system in some ways like angry Birds, or perhaps more like Instagram, except that it analyzes tissue images instead of offering a digital shooting gallery or dressing up family photos. Specifically, the first ImageJS module enables pathologists to drag a digitized pathology slide into a Web app and analyze it for malignancy based on color changes that occur when cancer cells are exposed to standard dyes. but the developers’ vision is more ambitious than that.
The pathology modules are the first in a series coming from Jonas Almeida, Ph.D., director of the Division of Informatics in the UAB School of Medicine Department of Pathology and corresponding author of the JPI study.
Future modules will seek to perform genomics analysis, make the system capable of cloud computing and enable doctors to compare their patient’s data to similar cases stored in national databases. Such comparisons promise to increase diagnostic accuracy and rule out treatments that clash with a person’s genetic signature.
"we created a new kind of computational tool that promises to make patient data more useful where it’s collected," says Almeida. a demonstration is online on YouTube, and it’s available from the Google Chrome App store, Google Code and Github.
"but ImageJS is an informatics experiment at this point; it will only become something special if pathologists embrace it," he says.
Public resources such as the Cancer Atlas, Gene Expression Omnibus and 1,000 Genomes Project have been generating massive data sets for years, but researchers are just beginning to harness it with Web apps to improve health-care delivery. to tap this potential, experts need apps that are neither overly complex nor require unsafe downloads of desktop applications.
The promise of ImageJS, Almeida says, lies in the willingness of pathologists to partner with biostatisticians at other institutions to write modules for this open-coded system that add value or resolve their specific problems. if that happens, ImageJS could come to resemble the social coding communities that surround smart phones, in this case to deliver better healthcare.
"Pathologists are extremely eager for this, but the barriers so far have made it frustrating," says James Robinson Hackney, M.D., a UAB pathologist who consulted on the ImageJS project. "It’s great to watch a colleague’s face when this system enables them almost instantly to accomplish a goal they had given up on using past applications."
The "ImageJS" name pays homage to the "ImageJ," an image-analysis program pioneered by the National Institutes of Health. ImageJ was written in the JAVA language and required hours of programming and security-breaching software to make the small changes needed to work with a hospital’s system. because hospital systems often prevent just such software downloads, its use has been limited there.
Most important, ImageJS code migrates from the code repository to the browser and eliminates the risks of travel-related data damage and exposure that violates patient privacy.
The central barrier to Web 3.0, an approaching era when all computers act as one to achieve new levels of collaboration and computing power, is that data compiled to date worldwide has been locked in silos that can’t be searched, shared or analyzed.
While researchers hope to translate existing databases into the simple, universal Web 3.0 data formats that will allow this kind of sharing, they are also starting fresh. Almeida’s team, for instance, will be attempting over the next year to build a database that offers future ImageJS users the option to store images and related analysis in a resource description framework or RDF.
Once data is stored in this format, it can be found by queries written in SPARQL, a simple computer language that can be learned by most people in a couple of hours. That is extremely important, says Almeida, because the next generation of bioinformatics must not remain the province of programmers. instead, the researchers running the clinical trials and translational studies must write their own programs, which would add "stunning, new analytic value" to their research and feed into the new global databases.
The UAB team’s work proceeds alongside other academic efforts, such as Tetherless World Constellation at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and ventures such as LinkedLifeData, Sindice and Hadoop.
Like a game, everyone’s hoping to get to the next level. but for the field of bioinformatics — and for patients — the stakes are real, and they’re much higher.

The parade of Ultrabooks marches on with Acer’s announcement of the new Aspire Timeline Ultra M5 lineup. three new models offer no killer features, but do include — in the case of the two higher-priced notebooks — Intel Ivy Bridge processors and Nvidia graphics and are a mere 0.81 inches thick.
Starting at $679.99, the 4.3-pound M5-481T-6670 features a 14-inch LED-backlit 1,366×768 screen, 1.5GHz Core i3-2377M Sandy Bridge Processor and 6GB of RAM. An additional $80 nets you the M5-481TG-6814, which includes the same screen but also packs the 2.6GHz Core i5-3317U Ivy Bridge CPU and GeForce GT640M LE graphics. #1 run a virus scan.

#2 Too many programs running.
You will notice whenever you start up your PC there are several programs or applications that will automatically run or start up. if there are too many programs that will automatically start up, this will also slow down the processing of your computer. Make sure that there are only 3 – 4 programs running to maintain the speed of your PC. doing this will help you answer how to fix my computer and speed it up.
#3 you are low on memory and disk space.
The RAM and hard disk of you PC is very important. low memory and low disk space will surly slow down your computers performance. you can solve your problem with your low memory by upgrading your memory. the recommended RAM is 1 GIG of RAM, this can support all your programs and it doesn’t cost that much. in solving your low disk space, you should regularly delete unwanted and unimportant files. this could save a lot of disk space.
#4 Your computer is full of corrupted files.
Use a registry cleaner to detect and fix corrupted files. if you don’t have any registry cleaner application you can download some online for free. Make sure that the registry cleaner you will get will be free from malicious files as well. the best ones are not free but you can find out if you have registry problems first by downloading a free registry scanner which will check for problems and will solve the question of how to fix my computer and make it run faster.
Hard drives that provide prime material for identity theft are more likely to come from a company for which you are an employee or client than from your own computer, according to a study released by the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK on Thursday. ICO had a computer forensics company read 200 used hard drives using freely available tools, and found that files containing personal data like bank account info and tax forms were more likely to have come from an organization than an individual.
The 200 hard drives were sourced from computer trade fairs and online auction sites by the forensics company NCC Group. The drives were first searched without any particular software, and then searched again using “forensic tools freely available on the internet.”
Fifty-two percent of the drives had been wiped, but 48 percent still had readable information, with 34,000 recoverable files. Of the 200 drives, only two had enough data to allow a new owner to steal the former owner’s identity. four more drives, however, contained information on employees and clients of four organizations, including health and financial details.
Recoverable data on those four hard drives included detailed reports with personal and sensitive data, job applications, copies of passports, birth certificates, and drivers’ licenses, tax forms, full bank account information, and health information. ICO noted that the drives were “either personally or corporately owned,” and the data they contained was the result of unauthorized working from home in some cases.
ICO stated that it had since contacted the four organizations associated with each of the drives, and all four had assured ICO that new strategies had been put in place to prevent the same level of data exposure.
While four hard drives out of 200 are a small number, the fact that they were company property suggests that each one could have exposed data and facilitated identity theft for large groups of people. that the data recovery required no specialized tools is particularly troubling. Sadly, individuals often have no choice but to trust an employer or business with sensitive information, and there’s little they can do to ensure their data is treated properly once in corporate hands.
Seagate has become the first hard drive maker to achieve the milestone storage density of 1 terabit (1 trillion bits) per square inch, producing a demonstration of the technology that promises to double the storage capacity of today’s hard drives upon its introduction later this decade and give rise to 3.5-inch hard drives with an extraordinary capacity of up to 60 terabytes over the 10 years that follow.
The bits within a square inch of disk space, at the new milestone, far outnumber stars in the Milky way, which astronomers put between 200 billion and 400 billion. Seagate reached the landmark data density with heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR), the next- generation recording technology. the current hard drive technology, Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR), is used to record the spectrum of digitized data — from music, photos, and video stored on home desktop and laptop PCs to business information housed in sprawling data centers — on the spinning platters inside every hard drive. PMR technology was introduced in 2006 to replace longitudinal recording, a method in place since the advent of hard drives for computer storage in 1956, and is expected to reach its capacity limit near 1 terabit per square inch in the next few years. Hard drive manufacturers increase areal density and capacity by shrinking a platter’s data bits to pack more within each square inch of disk space. they also tighten the data tracks, the concentric circles on the disk’s surface that anchor the bits. the key to areal density gains is to do both without disruptions to the bits’ magnetization, a phenomenon that can garble data. Using HAMR technology, Seagate has achieved a linear bit density of about 2 million bits per inch, once thought impossible, resulting in a data density of just over 1 trillion bits, or 1 terabit, per square inch — 55 percent higher than today’s areal density ceiling of 620 gigabits per square inch. the maximum capacity of today’s 3.5-inch hard drives is 3 terabytes (TB), at about 620 gigabits per square inch, while 2.5-inch drives top out at 750 gigabytes (GB), or roughly 500 gigabits per square inch. the first generation of HAMR drives, at just over 1 terabit per square inch, will likely more than double these capacities to 6TB for 3.5-inch drives and 2TB for 2.5-inch models. the technology offers a scale of capacity growth never before possible, with a theoretical areal density limit ranging from 5 to 10 terabits per square inch — 30TB to 60TB for 3.5-inch drives and 10TB to 20TB for 2.5-inch drives.
Nowadays speed and agility are essential parts of day to day life especially when we talk about computers and internet. gone are the days of dial-up internet and 133Hz Pentium processors. Thank God for Broadband and multi-core processors. but despite all the technology available to make our computers faster with time they tend to slow down. What to do then?
In this article I’ll give you some tips to improve the processing speed of your computers. these tips are more or less in chronological order and when you reach the end of this article you will understand why.
Many people are not even aware they exist, but they and with time they occupy huge slots of space within hard drives and start to slow computers down.
There is a simple and easy solution for this problem and it is called Ccleaner. This software is free to download and will clean up all the unwanted Temp files from your hard drives and optimise your computers performance which leads us to my next tip.
Where to find Ccleaner?
Simply do a search in Google and many download options will show up.
It sounds geeky but it is also fairly simple. To optimise performance you need to defrag your disks. Wait don’t panic
Assuming that you use Windows, go to the start menu, all programs, accessories, system tools and select disk defragmenter. run it but first make sure all programs are closed, it might take some time so I recommend living it running when you go to sleep. you can also schedule auto-runs, that you way you machine is always optimised to its best performance
SDD RAM Memory Upgrade
This one is a little more complicated and you will require the assistance of an IT Man or your local computer repairs man. If you installed many games, heavy software’s like Photoshop for instance you might notice that your computer is running slower when you play or run this programs. This is because they are using most of your computer memory the SDD RAM Memory.
To solve this problem you need to buy and install more SDD RAM Memory cards and to do that you will need professional help. Contact your IT Man or local computer repairs guy and he or she will be able to assist you in the best options available for your computer and more importantly mother board.
Again I suggest you seek professional help for this one. Formatting is in other words restoring your computer to factory settings. By doing this all the data will be erased so make sure you ask whoever does that to you to backup the files and folders you don’t want to be erased.
Buying a new computer
This is my last resort If you have the money to spare why not buy newer and faster computer but remember the first two tips should be done periodically to any computer be it new or old.
You might have come across the Computers For Sale section while surfing Craigslist. there are many things that can be found here other than computers. These are:
Using a Craigslist search program one can purchase not just a whole computer but even the individual parts if you wish to replace any missing or non-functioning computer part. this is a cost effective method.
Many people find the need for using an extended USB mouse, speakers and even keyboards while working on a laptop at office. to purchase such equipment, including laptop bags and cases, browse this section.
Desktop or Home PC have several accessories such as mouse pads, speakers, external storage devices, hard drives, head phones and other multimedia sets, printers and so on. These items can be found and purchased using the Craigslist searcher or under the For Sale section.
Printers and Scanners
Printers, scanners, and photocopiers can also be bought from Craigslist. Compare the prices of new brands and used ones before actual payment and check if the CD-ROM required to install the device driver is bound to the package.
Software products purchase must be executed carefully as there is the issue of system compatibility. this is why people prefer to use Craigslist to buy a program since they can use the reviews to know about a software product.
Sale of Furniture
Computer furniture can be found specifically under this section apart from the general furniture for sale section. Computer tables, desks, chairs, laptop tables can all be found here using the Craigslist search tool. several other computer related items can also be found under this section.
Suppose two persons that have data stored on some media, say hard drives. if the two persons need to share this data with each other, what will they do?
This question is the basis on which the networking principle is built. the two persons can send the data to each other by copying it to movable drive say flash memory and giving it to each other. this can be well if it will not be happening continuously. but what if the two persons need to send data every day or even every hour? it will be difficult to send it to each other especially if they remote from each other.
The idea of networking has been arisen from such cases. instead of sending data between two or more people on movable devices such as floppy disks, they can easily connect their computers to each other. Every person who wants to transfer the data to his friend can easily transfer it through the network.
So how will the data be transferred across the network? Simply by connecting computers of different persons to each other by means of cables the data can be easily transmitted. Thus the media will be cables rather than movable devices although it can be also wireless device. the wireless device will send the data in air by electromagnetic waves. it will be electrical pulses if the data are transmitted on cables.
In fact networks can be used not only to share data but also to share devices such as printers and CD-ROM. One user on a floor can use a printer that is connected to another computer on anther floor by means of the network. the same is true for CD-ROM. this must be configured on both computers by the operating system. this benefit of networking makes it helpful for people to use remote devices on their office. Also it reduced the cost because on printer or one CD-ROM is used for all members of the network.
Mainly the network will be composed of a set of computers and a printer. this set of computers will be responsible for sending the data to each other. One computer also may use the printer to print documents. if the network looked like this, it will be called peer to peer. in this scheme, all computers are the same and have equal processing power. the information is also distributed across them equally. There is no device that has more data in its hard drive.
On the other hand, if there is at least one computer in the network that has more stored data and more processing power and speed, then the scheme will be called server-based networking. the computer that has the more data storage and the higher processing power will be called the server. this scheme can be defined also as a client-server based model because the other computers in the network that have normal processing power will b treated as clients that will request data from the server. the internet is build over this scheme where the home computers are the clients and the computers that serve them are called servers. the most popular server type is the web server which forwards page to the clients in the home or offices.
